Observations / predictions and prototypes

I have made a few paddle boats for testing in that I have learned the following things.

First, I learned that if the paddle is bigger the boat will move faster because, the paddle has more surface area which causes more displacement of the water which makes the boat to move forward faster.

Second, the boat needs to weigh enough to be able to float, otherwise it won't move in the water or if it weighs too much it'll sink.

Third, the boat has to be streamlined. Drag is basically friction in water.
Streamlined boats use this design to reduce drag. Streamlined boats also help boats in water they make the boat sail fast through the water.

More observations

  • The rubber band # 64 is wide and long, so it needs a proper amount of space
  • Both popsicle sticks with glue and wood with nails have made relatively good boats

Prototypes

First, we made one out of styrofoam just to see how it works we made a paddle , and tested it out it worked quite well

Second, we made a classic popsicle stick boat with a paddle, but we did not have #64 rubber band yet,so we used another rubber band it had worked well but well enough for the criteria

Third, we made one by wood and nails instead of using a smaller paddle we made a big one and made the boat streamlined. We tested it out,and it went faster than the first one.

Fourth, we made another boat that was made from popsicle sticks we designed to be streamlined, but used a smaller paddle this boat.We also used the #64 rubber band. We also tested it out,and it went not that far as the other boats .

Cost

The budget is $50

We have used _____ dollars
